Equius and Nepeta might have actually protected them with their powers as the Heros of Void and Heart!
HERE’S MY EXPLANATION!
During my reread of Act 5, I noticed that Hussie pointed out that Equius is always staring.
At first it just seemed kind of funny, but then it appeared again and I wondered if he was trying to foreshadow something?
And then I thought that maybe it has something to do with the void, since he is the Heir of Void. I decided to go back and reread what UU (Calliope) had to say about the void.
(It might be worth noting how she specifically mentions “those with plans beyond mortal understanding”.)
So then I started to think about Nepeta, because her powers weren’t explained during the troll session either. I looked back at what UU had to say about the heart aspect.
“…which certain classes could cause in others”. It turns out that Nepeta’s class is supposed to do exactly that!!
I think it might just be a possibility that Nepeta managed to split everyone’s soul (so that there would be two of them), and Equius used his void to shield them from L.E.
Actually, right before L.E. destroys them, it shows his reflection in Equius’s shades:
So L.E. might have actually gotten decoys, or split versions of the real trolls/kids!
